Kurdistan Regional Government’s COVID-19 Information Webpage Wins International Award
ERBIL – The Information Technology Department (DIT) of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) won the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award at this year’s Esri User Conference in July.
DIT officials in the Kurdistan region released the news this week after receiving the award in the mail. Esri describes itself as “a global provider of geographic information system (GIS) software, web GIS, and geographic database management applications.”

Nawzad Al-Salihi, head of outreach and capacity building at KRG DIT, tweeted on Wednesday that the department was honored to have received the award for “amazing work on http://GOV.KRD Table of COVID-19 awareness board. This could not have been achieved without excellent teamwork within DIT.
“We have created a dashboard showing the number of infected people in different areas which is still available,” said Al-Salihi in Kurdistan 24. “In addition, we have created a section on the portal http: // GOV. KRD for COVID-19 awareness. ”

He added that the DIT “is at the heart of the KRG digitization reform and other services can be found on the portal http://gov.krd in the near future”.
Aziz Ahmad, Deputy Chief of Staff to Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, tweeted that he was very proud of the team.

The special GIS (Geographic Information System) achievement awards ceremony takes place at the annual Esri User Conference, with approximately 19,000 attendees each year.
Esri President Jack Dangermond personally selects the recipients and presides over the ceremony. Organizations stand out from over 100,000 others around the world to win the SAG Award.
