Protect yourself during the flu season – Get the 2021 flu shot for free! – Union County, New Jersey


Free flu shots available to residents of Union County, starting September 23.

Union County, New Jersey – The Union County Board of County Commissioners encourages all residents to get their seasonal flu shot as soon as possible this year. Free flu shots will be distributed at clinics run by the Office of Health Management across Union County starting Thursday, September 23. People with health insurance are advised to visit their pharmacy or doctor for a flu shot.

“Please protect yourself and your family and help avoid unnecessary trips to a doctor or hospital emergency room by getting a free flu shot,” said Chairman of the Council of Commissioners Alexander Mirabella.

Protection against seasonal flu is more important than ever due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Public health experts fear that medical resources could be overwhelmed if a seasonal flu epidemic combines with the COVID-19 crisis.

Free flu shot clinics are open to all adults and children in Union County aged nine and over.

Children between the ages of four and eight can also use the free Union County flu shot clinics if they’ve already received two flu shots according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control guidelines.

Appointments are strongly encouraged and residents can book an appointment online by visiting or calling 908-613-7829.

Walk-ups will be seen weather permitting.

The following dates have been scheduled for the Union County influenza vaccination campaign. Each event will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

  • 9/23 – Linden, Wheeler Park, 24 West Simpson Avenue, Linden, NJ
  • 9/30 – Roselle, High School – Abraham Clark High School, 122 E 6e, Roselle, New Jersey
  • 10/7 – Plainfield, Cedar Brook Park, Plainfield
  • 10/14 – Summit Town Hall, Whitman Hall, 512 Springfield Ave, Summit, NJ
  • 10/21 – Roselle Park, Casano Community Center, 314 Chestnut Street, Roselle Park, NJ
  • 10/28 – Hillside Community Center, 274 Hillside Ave, Hillside, NJ
  • 11/4 – Rahway Recreation Center, 275 E Milton Ave., Rahway, NJ
  • 11/18 – Chisholm Community Center, Springfield

Any Union County resident can visit one of these clinics, regardless of their city of residence.

To prepare for a visit to Union County influenza vaccination clinics, residents are advised to consult the fact sheet published by the Centers for Disease Control in English, Spanish and other languages. at (select “Influenza, inactivated” from the vaccine index).

Masks are required when visiting any of the Union County free flu vaccination clinics, and temperatures will be taken on arrival.

People who have a fever, cough, sneezing or other signs of illness will not be admitted to an influenza collection site. Residents who exhibit symptoms of illness should consult their physician.

Please note that there are no income eligibility requirements for COVID-19 or seasonal flu vaccines. Other vaccines are available depending on income.
