The Department of Education, which collects its COVID-19 in-school data from school boards every day of the week, on Thursday reported cases in 10 local schools that actually have none, according to officials. school boards.

Essex County District School Board spokesperson Scott Scantlebury told The Star the errors can be traced to reporting errors at the school level.

“Every day managers have to update the information in a program,” Scantlebury said. If they make a mistake in reporting cases among staff or students, the false information is “automatically sent” to the provincial database to appear on a provincial web page titled “COVID-19 Cases in Schools”.

These errors can take “24 hours or more to resolve,” Scantlebury said, as the provincial website is only updated once a day at 10:30 am.

The provincial site mistakenly reports eight cases at David Maxwell Public School, one at Essex District High School, two at Eastwood Public School, four at Queen Elizabeth Public School, four at school Southwood Public School, one at Talbot Trail Public School and two at Vincent Massey High School.
